Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)
The Ostrom Workshop is proud to launch its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), expanding access to the ideas that have redefined how we understand governance, institutional analysis, and collective action. Rooted in the pioneering work of Elinor and Vincent Ostrom, the course introduces participants to frameworks such as the Institutional Analysis and Development and Social-Ecological Systems frameworks, as well as contemporary applications in data commons, environmental and natural resource governance, and pioneering new fields like space and cyber governance. Together, these modules trace the Workshop’s evolution from its early studies of the commons to today’s explorations of complex, polycentric systems that shape our world. By opening this material to a global audience, we hope to foster engagement with the enduring questions that lie at the heart of the Ostroms’ legacy: How do people organise, cooperate, and govern themselves? And how can this understanding help build more resilient, sustainable, and equitable systems in a time of global interdependence?
